Hello:
I’m sort of going to start backwards to explain to you why a little exercise every day will help with your weight loss. Excess glucose in your bloodstream is the culprit. How do we get excess glucose? Well… it’s probably due to type 2 diabetes – either full blown type 2 diabetes or a pre-diabetic condition.
So… what is Type 2 Diabetes?
In simple terms… when you eat refined carbohydrates and sugars like white flour, french fries, white rice, and soft drinks, the carbohydrates are quickly digested and converted to glucose which our bodies need for energy. But… too much glucose is a bad thing! The hormone insulin is needed to transport the glucose into our muscle cells where it is used for energy. Excess is stored as fat in fat cells. What does not go into muscle cells for energy or stored in fat cells remains in the bloodstream and causes all kinds of problems like heart disease, eye problems, kidney problems, nerve dysfunction, etc.
Over time, your muscle cells become resistant to the excess insulin that is always being created due to your bad eating habits. This creates a vicious cycle which, in addition to the other problems mentioned above, causes the excess glucose to be converted to fat. Thus your weight gain.
So… what to do?
1) You can cut back on refined carbs like white flour, white rice, potatoes, white sugar, etc. and replace them with complex carbohydrates or unrefined carbs like whole wheat bread, brown rice, natural sugars or honey, green vegetables, etc. A good place to start is with the low carb, high protein, low sugar, high fiber, low sodium, weight loss shake Vi-Shape.
2) EXERCISE!… now what I suggest here is something sustainable. By sustainable, I mean do something that you enjoy doing enough to get out there and do it every day. I don’t like jogging – it’s hard work, painful, hard on my feet and knees, I sweat a lot, etc. I’m not going to do it every day. Walking, on the other hand, is easy and enjoyable. I can get out in the fresh air and enjoy the scenery, clear my mind, and do some thinking. If you pick walking, try to walk for one hour at least 5 times a week. I also like working around the house, so sometimes I mow the lawn, do some gardening, work on the car, fix something, etc. The important thing to remember is to pick a form of exercise that you will enjoy doing every day… roller blading, tennis, swimming, bicycling, aerobics, etc.
Why is Exercise Important?
I was once told by a doctor that I was “pre-diabetic”. What he didn’t tell me was all I had to do was get a little exercise every day and my blood glucose levels would go down almost immediately. That’s what exercise does… gets the insulin/glucose system back closer to normal. Without the exercise, the type 2 diabetes vicious cycle would continue and eventually spiral out of control as your muscle cells become more resistant to the insulin. I think my doctor was more interested in getting another “lifelong” patient on two different very expensive drugs not to mention those expensive glucose meter test strips. He was nice enough to give me a free glucose meter though! And all he had to do was tell me to get off the sofa and walk for one hour every day and stop eating so many french fries. But there’s no money in that.
